CINEMA: What Happens In Vegas
May 11, 2008Cameron Diaz is currently one of the best comic actresses around, never bothered about how much of a fool she makes of herself and with a winning sense of comedic timing, but she’ll need better material than is to be found in this lame romcom if she is to do her talent justice.
Here she’s paired with Ashton Kutcher as two random strangers in Vegas who get drunk together and wake up the next morning to discover they are married. A quickie divorce is on the cards, but first there’s the matter of the $3million they’ve won on a slot machine. They both claim custody of the money but their divorce judge says neither of them can have it until they have done ‘six months hard marriage’, cue lots of not very funny jokes about them sharing a flat and trying to get one over on each other.
It is not so much that this is badly acted but that you’ve seen it all before and done much better. As the pair’s enmity to each other starts to melt you’ll see what’s coming a mile away – and hope for it arrive a little sooner.
